We had our first kind of meeting directly after the first class on Monday, but today we had our first set meeting to flesh out ideas.
During the meeting we emailed prepared an email and sent this to Florists across the country:
Subject: University Project
Dear _____
We are a group of 4th year design students from Massey University Wellington currently undertaking an entrepreneurial paper that requires us to come up with a start-up business idea.
We are interested in looking into waste within the florist industry. We were wondering if you would mind answering a few quick questions to help us with our research. All responses will be presented anonymously unless you agree to us publishing your company name.
Do you think there is an issue of waste within the florist industry?
What is the largest area of waste for your business? (Stems, flowers, paper/wrap, etc)
Do you currently have any procedures in place for managing or disposing of this? If so, what are they?
Do we have permission to use your name/company name?
Would you be willing to be further contacted for any further enquiries?
Thanks,
Tia, Sam, and Gen
We then rang around some local florists to see if they would welcome us into their shop to have a look around and a chat about their waste and processes. We were pleasantly surprised by the positive reactions we were getting and have been welcomed to about 5 florists over the course of next Wednesday.
So for Monday we just need to prepare a pitch that encompasses our thoughts so far which are:
We are looking into the waste in the florist industry and repurposing this in either a social good or product venture.
